Andrea Graham
Haitian Immigrant - At the age of 13, I emigrated from Haiti to the United States. Making new friends as a teenager is challenging enough, imagine learning a new language in the process. I was determined to assimilate quickly to my new home and learned English within a few months. Being born Haitian is a wonderful blessing, and it has allowed me to further appreciate the diversity we celebrate in the United States.
Wife and Mother – I’m certainly the woman of our house as I am blessed to be surrounded by my husband, Terrance, and our four sons: Earl, Marcus, Michael, and Terrell. My family is my team, and sharing milestones and achievements together is the most important role of my life. My husband and I focus on finding balance and recently were selected to share our story on the A&E reality show “Married At First Sight”.
Scholarly – At 16, I received a full scholarship to Columbia University and became the youngest person in my class to complete my high school studies. My leadership skills flourished and I began working on a youth sketch series addressing teen issues. Before I knew it, I was directing, hosting and starring on Channel 13. I am grateful for the communications skills and poise I gained during this experience and carry it with me still.
My Father’s Legacy – A heart attack stole my father from me, and because of that my family manages the risks of high blood pressure every day. My platform spotlights my program “Know Your Numbers”, blood pressure management tool. Every minute I have with my family is precious and I recognize that the healthy habits and choices I make can help me be there for my family as long as God will allow.
